PCB Coloring

PCB Coloring | 16 June, 2004

An issue just came up concerning the color of FR-4. By accident we received a prototype board that was blue. We like the looks of it but can not justify a change because it looks cool. My questions are: 1: Why are most common PCB's green? 2: What are the tradeoffs, ie electrical characteristics, etc for changing board colors?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Q1: Why are most common PCB's green? A1: Tradition

Q2: What are the tradeoffs, ie electrical characteristics, etc for changing board colors? Q2: None. We use different colored solder mask on boards to indicate different development stages. See you're just like us. We don't want to ship prototypes.
