Hello! My name is Rodion Pronin and I represent research oriented software company Asprosft located in Toronto, Canada. One of our recent projects were developing a optimization engine for pcb assembly. That is, given the machine capabilities and chip placements, we produce the sequence in which chips should be placed on the board. The time of assembly with such sequence will give manufacturer a real benefit, as throughput may increase enourmously, without having to invest into more faster and expensive machinery. So far we are in the testing phase, and at this point we are looking for manufacturers of pcbs that would be willing to use our services for free. If you choose to participate you will receive 2 programs, programs are coded in Java and should be compatible with any platform, as long as JVM 1.4 or above is installed. - PCB Creator A tool that will aid you in creating a chip placement scheme, note we are not interested in your pcb specifics except for chip placement, so you will not be sending us your confidential pcb designs - Optimizator Client A client application that will aid you in creating a machine scheme, that is its dimensions, speed, feeder attachments and more, also you will be able to position the pcb on the machine. Once problem have been defined you will be able to send information to our server for calculation. Please note that you will not be sending any confidential information to us, nor we will ask you for any such information, as well, as this point you have no obligations towards us and you may stop using our services as fast you decide to do so. We reserve the right to refuse providing services to you at any time. We claim no responsibility as to how you use the results we send you and we will not be responsible for any misuse of the information that we send you. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at pronin@rogers.com Please do not think of this thread as of advertising ad, as at this moment we are not oriented on the money making, not at this moment.

Also there are completely no potential harm to the assembly process, this is strictly a mathematical application that considers distances and speeds to come up with better sequence. Every manufacturer that wants to create PCB faster should think about this.

I forgot to add one important thing.

What I have been describing is completely machine independant, meaning as long as machine has front feeder line and rear feeder line, it could be optimized.

The result you will be receiving is an ASCII text. It is up to an operator to use the information. What we need as input are: number of feeder attachments on the front and rear line, we need x,y coordinates of the pcb placed on the machine and x,y coordinates of every component you will be placing on the pcb. Given that we will give you how you should arrange your feeders and in what sequence you should pick up components and place them. Result will be readable and understable by any person that have very basic knowledge of the assembly process.

Please note, that if you do want to use preset feeder arrangement, it is possible to do so, then you simply will be receiving a sequence in which you should be assembling your pcb.

There are many different machines on the market and each is being programmed differently, we cannot be compatible with each and every machine. But we provide a very detailed and understandable information for operator/programmer of the machine to understand.
