I am looking for information on the industrial standard for the temperature for hand soldering components.

Temps are related to the components/PCBs being soldered. I am not aware of any Industry standard. If you are soldering flex circuits, .020" boards etc.. We use 500 deg tips a little thicker PCB/lead we go to 600, and so on. We never exceed 800 in any case. You have to be able to transfer the heat through the board and/or the lead being soldered. Max time on the Iron is also a parameter that you need to look at. Proper tip selection is very important in minimizing the actual temp of the iron.

I know this is of not much help but since I was sittin here....

I agree with Russ.

The hand soldering temperature depends on: * What you are soldering. * What solder paste you are using. * What are the capabilities of your soldering iron.

That being said, kind look at 580-650*F as kinda, sorta typical.

The other thing to look at is the component spec, most will state a max, e..g SMT ceramic Caps are actually rated to be hand soldered at 500F!... fine if it's a light PCB but if it's a big thing with lot's of grounding.... Teh component suppliers really are laggingbehind in this and it's probably not in term's of the components not being able to take it, it's more that they haven't done the testing so wont commit to it or they are being overly protective of thier components.

ACI (www.aciusa.org) Does have a real time SPC interface for soldering Irons. MSM product.

Provides you with soldering temp, dwell time and other useful info. This is key if needed to track process closely
