Any success using metal squeegees w/Fuji GSPII? | 29 January, 1998

Using metal squeegees on GSPs has caused premature stencil wear. Has anyone had any success with this combination? How much snap off did you use? We are using .5 mm pitch and have a no clean process.

I have been using lots of metal sqyeegee blades for Fuji GSP-2 and GSP3 with contact printing ..0 snap off. and never have any problem if you set up correctly. The stencil will be worn out if thr operator put too much pressure on the squeegee blade.I use chemetch stencil only for 16 to 20 mils pitch part Rin

Cost is about 5k, and works great. I have used metal Squeeges on the gsp2 for a number of years, A couple of things to keep in mind, Stencil material, squeege manufacturer. Also you might try to configure your squeege as free floating (Attachment at the center only), this will reduce wear should the adjustment from one side to the other not be set correctly.

metal squeegees hide printer deficencies | 12 February, 1998

| Using metal squeegees on GSPs has caused premature stencil wear. Has | anyone had any success with this combination? How much snap off did you | use? We are using .5 mm pitch and have a no clean process. Stencil wear is is minimal but exists. The real problem is deforming solder spheres in the paste. Look at the spheres under a scope after a day under the knife and notice all the sheared balls. If your not doing fine pitch (0.016" to 0.012") it will not matter except you'll clean more often. Ultra Fine Pitch printing requires consistent spheres, negative contact (thats right push the board into the stencil) a metal backed poly blade and back the squeegee pressure to 5g/mm that's about 3 lbs for a 6" blade. You also need to use 1.2 million cps paste at 91% metal. See Panasonic KME SP22 at Nepcon Printing 0.012" all day long. Printing 20 mil is like throwing mud through a screen door.

I've been using metal blades on several brands of printers over the past few years and have to agree with comments in other replies. Contact print is a must or you will tear slits in your stencils at the ends of the blade. Center-mounted (floating) squeege mount is very forgiving but not mandatory. Just enough pressure to clear the stencil is the correct pressure to avoid excess wear and give consistent results. No reason why they shouldn't work with your GSPs | | | Using metal squeegees on GSPs has caused premature stencil wear. Has | | | anyone had any success with this combination?
