| | Your question seems vague and very general. Gerber formatting is nothing more than describing points in an X-Y plane. It may be provided via CAD design capabilities or by manual means that has been digitized.
Gerber data is "dumb" - meaning it has no ability to provide anything but points selected by an intelligent being, program, or? It simply provides a way to connect two or more points with a line or lines.
When generated by CAD, its output is capable of being downloaded to CAM for all manufacturing and test operations following the design phase. If you need to derive Gerber data from CAD, many CAM and test programs are available to do the job.
