the SOD-80 | 25 January, 1999

| I am searching for application notes on the SOD-80. Also, I am looking for any problems that have been discovered while using it. Also, we are looking for the pick and place equipment upgrades that will be needed to use the package- Pricing, manufacturers, vendors, etc. Any related information would be greatly appretiated. |

Most fairly modern placement machine can do MELFs. They might require a different nozzle, but they should be able to do a SOD80/MLL34 package.

The toughest part about those guys ( SOD80/MLL34 ) is, they don't want to stay on the board after placement. Keep trying to roll right off. A lot of folks use "U" shaped pads. Check IPC-SM-782 for examples.

Purchasing types like them because they're 2 micro-cents cheaper than a 0603. So they end-up being heros, saving all those 2 micro-cents and the production types end-up wasting how much time scurrying around trying to keep those buggers in the board.

They are definitely slippery little fellas.
