Samsung CP40LV Hard Drive Issues | 4 January, 2013

The hard drive on our CP40LV went out. Does not work. Anybody knows where I can find one to replace the bad one. Is it like a regular PC where you just replace the hard drive as long as it has the operating system and program in it. Need help...I have a dead machine I can't use.

Depending on the age of your machine you should be able to find an IDE hard drive that will work at an online computer parts store like Newegg.com or Tiger direct. There is a possibility on the older machines that the motherboard bios could limit the size of the hard drive to less than the limit set by Windows 95 or 98. In that case it might limit you to using a smaller hard drive that is not produced anymore. There are a lot of vintage computer parts for sale on Ebay.Your best bet would be to see what drive is in the machine and see if you can find something similar.

You will not find a hard drive with the operating system and program on it. You will need to load the the Windows 95 or 98 disks and the Samsung MMI disks after you install a working hard drive into the machine. Hopefully you have a backup of your configuration files and programs.

There is a remote possibility I have a hard drive rolling around my office that was imaged as a spare for a 2005 Samsung CP40LV we are not using anymore. I will check on Monday.

Do you know what year your machine is?
