Dima's Pick and Place Machines and other low volume P&P | 26 April, 2007

Hello,

I'm trying to setup a low volume SMT production line with many changeovers per one day.

Looking at the several options out there, I have considered the following: 1) ESSEMTEC http://www.essemtec.com 2) Autotronik http://www.autotronik-smt.de 3) Dima http://www.dimasmt.nl

I'm now considering Dima to be our choice for pick and place. Pluses are that they offer intelligent feeders and friendly software to import CAD output files. However I have no idea on their reliability. The cost of a line based on their machines is kept a minimum. However, what am I losing going with them? Is there anyone on the forum who had any experience with these machines? Could someone please help me and tell me what I should be considering at a low budget? We really can't get any used machines... so that option is not possible.

Thanks you guys, I really wish to hear from you. You can email me at soufi@ieee.org if you wish to contact me offline about this.

Hi Basem,

What's your budget? You may be able to get a decent second user machine and a bundle of feeders for the same price as a new one of those (Mydata, assmeblion, I-Pulse, Samsung etc) and not have to change it in a year or two..

Cheers,

Rob.

$100K for this entire line. We are thinking of getting a Chinese made reflow oven that looks pretty good at $25K. Also, we need to deposit solder using a dispenser as stencil printing will be reserved only for higher volume boards. It will not be practical to have stencils for every board as volumes of majority of the boards are small. we only need about 4K per hour nominal placement rate with 3K minimum practical rate.

As for used machinery, we rather wish the machines to be new so we do not have to replace them for at least 5 years.

Do you know more about those Dima products? What are your thoughts with this kind of budget?

Where are you located? If in US, support for DIMA equipment is through Manncorp. Not a source I would put my money on.

Hi,

I would get a second hand MYDATA, and that should do the trick. Lots of feeders available, and easy to program. Good for small volume, but not high volume.

The machines will be located in Damascus, Syria and so we can't/don't want to acquire any U.S. assembled machinery for several different reasons.

As far as I know, My Data is U.S. made? Correct? Please let me know.

Our support for DIMA will be through its HQ in the Netherlands. Also, Manncorp is also responsible for Autotronik's equipment.

Anyway, anyone out there with previous DIMA experience?

Regards and thanks,

Basem

Basem, I worked directly with both Essemtec and Dima and if you send me an email I can help provide direction. cal_Driscoll@hotmail.com

Unfortunately,I have been out of the SMT world for almost 4 years now.

I would lean more towrds the Essemtec as they have had a PNP machine available for market much longer than dima. This helps iron out a lot of bugs in hardware and software.

One other company you may want to look into is Mimot (ww.mimot.com) for a non-usa machine. Unfortunatly I have no idea of the $. I was impressed with the machines when I saw them a few years back.

Grant-Thanks for letting me know that MyData is made in non-U.S. made machine.

Cal-Thanks, I will be sending you an email to your email account you have provided. I have contact MIMOT already, however, they are VERY expensive machines and it will not make any economical sense. We have the money to buy the most expensive machines, however, whatever we buy... must compete with China. This makes it really difficult and puts most machines out of consideration.

By the way, when it comes to SMT, MIMOT has been there longer than Siemens!

Regards.
