HIGH VOLTAGE AND FLUX RESIDUE | 27 November, 2006

HI THERE GUYS ,GALS, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A SPEC OR TEST OF THE AFFECTS OF HIGH VOLTAGE (300-1KV)ACROSS CONNECTIONS SOLDERED WITH NO-CLEAN. COULD THE FLUX BREAKDOWN AND CAUSE A CURRENT PATH? I HAVE CHECKED THE SPECS ON OUR SOLDER AND THE TEST METHODS WERE BELOW 100V. IS NO-CLEAN SOLDERS TYPICALLY USED ON HIGH VOLTAGE CIRCUITS? IS THIS AN ISSUE?ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

For Electrical Safety Test Requirements information, look here: http://www.evaluationengineering.com/archive/articles/0597emi.htm

For information on low residue versus OA flux on high voltage boards, look here: http://www.johansondielectrics.com/technicalnotes/arc/

We have no relationship, nor receive benefit from the companies referenced above.
