I have been thinking about and looking at writing a Palm based data collection program (using NSbasic, very similar to visualbasic) to replace our PCB inspection sheets. Has anyone done this? I am thinking that the inspector will use a PDA to record OK, or the fault(s) on a PCB. The data collected will be hotsynced to a database program to generate useful trends instead of a bunch of papers nobody looks at!! PR

Your goal is worthy, but we'd be concerned about Palm handheld population attrition.

I agree with Dave, we looked at it, but they can go walkies, and also people tread on them, drop things on them, mess with the programs etc.

We (the IT dept, not me)ended up writing a Visual basic program & put a PC at every inspection station, linked to the network, the AOI's, and a huge scoreboard on the wall which flagged up real time quality data & hourly production figures.

Interesting idea of PC at workstation, however I am thinking there is quite a supply now of say Palm505's on Ebay for very low $ as they become more and more obsolete. We are a small shop, so I am not concerned about loss. Pete
