Anyone know of a clean effective way to remove silkscreening from SMT components? We are currently using a laser source removal process and wish to consider alternatives.

Sandlast, laser, or pad print over existing marking

Team Services: Removing IC markings * methylene chloride to remove the markings * xylene and toulene will also remove some paints * "Black boxing" Simply use a tiny piece of sandpaper to "scratch the surface" and render the device blank.

Chris: Sandlasting generates a bijundo static charge. Be careful.

I hate come in late and ask this, but why? Just looking to learn - that's all.

You're not that late. Every time we've been involved in part marking removal, it was done to make it difficult to pirate a board design.

Dave F was right on the application, it has worked so far (3 years). Thanks for the ideas so far.
