I would like to take an informal poll on 0201 feeders. I am currently using Tyco machines and 0201 feeders for these machines have become impossible to find. I am hoping to get some feedback on other manufacturers feeders and try to modify them to fit my machines. I would like to get opinions on feeder accuracy, ease of loading components and durability of any feeder you may be using. Thanks for any and all help.

What kind of Tyco machine?? If its a Q-series you need to have a feeder that has photo sensors across the top to index the next part. There are things you can do to make the machine pick up parts at a better percentage.

Are you referring to a Mirae made Tyco machine? If yes....these feeders would be very easy to locate in Korea. If you need help finding them over there, let me know.

Yes these are Q series machines. I have several of their 0201 feeders that work great. The problem is that I need more and they seem to have quit making them. If you have any ideas for improving the accuracy of the standard 8mm feeder I would like to hear them. Thanks

These are not Mirea machines they are Q series originally made by Quad.

There are a bunch of things you can do to improve component mispicks. Leave an e-mail address and i will send you an e-mail with all the different things i have found to work.

Does Tyco offer a kit to retrofit standard feeders? Also one of my customers has surplus Quad feeders, I will refer him to this thread if any are 0201.

have you ever thought about teaching the feeder as a repeat pickup? 1st before the sensor and 2nd at the sensor.

no...there is no retrofit kit.....but if you find some good feeders....tear into them.....make sure everything is tight....about half the time you can make the feeder work ok. Also it doesnt hurt to use only one xf nozzle in the program so that only one head picks the 0201/0402 parts and teach the feeder as suggested below.

My Juki 0201 feeders work very well, but I don't know if they can fit your machine

Juki feeders will not work on Quad or Tyco machines.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately - depending on how you look at it) there are not many, if any, cross-platform feeders.

Heck, some vendors can't even swap between models of machines that they sell.

My consultancy firm will perform a process capability analysis on your 0201 feeder performance characteristics. We will leverage and integrate various feeder designs utilizing electro-mechancial design modeling and simulation.

Please consult us in helping to resolve this issue.

I had reason to check the Tyco web site today and on their home page was a very prominent sp? ad for feeders capable of handling 0201 parts. You mentioned that the ones from Tyco worked well, maybe they are back in stock. I talked to the customer that I mentioned in the earlier post, and got the impession that none of his surplus feeders were what you were looking for. Sure wish they had a spell checker here.

I have recently been in contact with Quad and the word I received was "none in stock and no plans on building any".

Is a Juki feeder a stand alone unit or does it need to communicate with the assembler ? I can operate a Quad feeder just by hooking it up to a proper voltage source. No need to communicate with a computer. If the Juki's will operate this way maybe I can modify it to fit my machines.

The Juki tape feeders are mechanically actuated. There is a knock pin on the bottom of the feeder bank that will push up to advance the feeder.

Hi,

Wow, that's an exciting service, please leave your contact details, and we can all immediately call, as we are desperate for electro-mechancial design modeling and simulation services for all our feeders. I was just thinking about electro-mechancial design modeling and simulation for feeders this morning when eating eggs, which is my most productive thinking time of the day.

I am really glad we have consultants to help us, as unfortunately I could never afford that education I dreamed about as a kid. If it was not for SMT, and the benefits from consultants, I would still be cleaning chimneys.

Do you have a web site? Although please feel free to post some philosophy, or poetry if you feel inspired, as we all love that stuff here.

It might be fun to try and modify one of these. Now I need to find an inexpensive one to play with.

Thanks for your input.

I think you'll find that the addition of Omega 3 (fish)oils to your breakfast on a regular basis will help the neurons in your brain build faster & stronger links, making you more intellegent. Damn that puts paid to a career in consultancy then.

Although you may lose friends/customers with your new found fishy breath....

Just maybe this new diet for the guru will burn a new orifice between his cheeks which may enable him to spew his rational more clearly. His current blowhole does not seem to be working.....RLM, there may be a decision by Tyco soon to produce 0201/0402 feeders (thin pros) that have proven effective in the past for the Quad style feeder bases. They are not cheap but at least it looks like it will be an option for you again soon.
