I have been looking at wave pallets with titanium inserts. I was told about another more recent and less expensive insert using aluminum. The aluminum is coated with some sort of material to prevent the solder from sticking. Is this anodized? Does anyone have experience with this that they are willing to share. I really must keep my pallet costs to a minimum. Thanks

Hello John, There are some coatings for aluminum to eliminate solder drag out. The do not work with all fluxes it is called hardcoat anodized it is black or geen in color. Unless you have faily high volumn the hard coat cost can be as high as titanum. We do have an expoxy coating we apply to pallets. We developed it to reduce skin irritation from pallet materials. Please call we have other alternatives depending on the application that can save on fixture cost.(973)586-2988 I hope this helps. Best Regards, Mark

We used durastone, with a profile routed out to expose certain areas & protect others. Durastone costs peanuts, and the tool room uses a small cheap Micromat router.

Hi John

We manufacture titanium component parts for wave solder machines inc retrofit kits for the conversion to lead free at a fraction of the manufacturers cost. For a quote email me at office@teiloengineering.com

Hi Rob

Can you please tell me where you can get durastone for peanuts as I find it quite expensive.

Hi,

Last time we bought it, it came from Roechling:

When I said peanuts I was comparing it to the cost of buying in custom pallets, or extra universal wave solder pallets.

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi John, I have used some wave fixtures with titanium inserts. I ordered from Pentagon EMS (503)924-2747... Turnaround time and quality are excellent.

We also only use Pentagon EMS, and they are very good.

Do you want some coating for aluminum? If so here you go.

Nordic Ware Hwy 7 at 100 Minneapolis, MN 55416 Phone: 952-920-2888 - Fax: 952-924-8621 Toll Free: 1-800-328-4310 ext.642

These guys charge about $200.00 per lot. You can coat with Silverstone or other nonstick coating. Just like a fry pan. And just like a fry pan, it will scrape off if you are not careful.

You can try General Magnaplate too. Just do a Google search.

Later,

Chris

I thought durastone was not ESD safe?

Hi Ken,

There may be different composites of Durastone, but there are certainly mixes out there that are.

We used durastone as a carrier for flex circuits as well.

Cheers,

Rob.
