I need to change Drill holes sizes in a PCB from 0.6mm to 0.55mm. Do it need to change anything else other than the Drill hole size in the INfo section of the Gerber file, for example do i also need to change the artwork of the other layers if the drill size is smaller than the older hole?

Is this change as easy as i think, as i am just a stencil designer really :)

Have you taken the plating thickness into consideration as this will happen after the drilling?

these holes are non-plated they are for light pipes and the tolerances of the PCB manufacturer are 0.05 mm so the light pipes are small for the holes. Do i need to change more than this one file i have or do i need to change NcDrill files as well. As my CircuitCam program gives me strange aperature readings for this...its impossible to edit

Send it out to someone who can make sure. Gerber readers are hard to make changes with, which is their design. Send it out. Most places will charge @ $100 US.

Or ask your board house to make the change for you - ours always do small mods like that for free, then send you back the updated Gerber.

Regarding the layer changes, whenever we tried editing gerbers out of their original package we always had issues.

Doesn't the NC drill file tell the CNC drilling machine what size of bit to use & where to drill it? Remember these CAM files are generated for a reason.

Also the situation may arise that the original designer is then going to have slightly different Gerbers than you - so if they up issue later on with other changes, your one may not be included, and you'll have to remember to do this again.

Well thats what i was thinking of doing and i am not worried about the designer of the PCB. He truly is a dick and i have had many fights with before about wave soldering pad sizes yet he insists he is right but i change them anyway and send the originals to the customer...I just want to learn how to do it myself thats all, am i am not sure how to edit the .DRL file/NcDrill file also my version of CircuitCam only has GerberExport function so i would end up changing the file type as well not good... but thanx anyway
