How to disable feeder slots | 6 December, 2005

Hi, I have put a new camera into a Universal GSM(1) machine, but it takes up an extra feeder slot either side. When optimising itself it does not know that a feeder won't fit there. Does anyone know how to tell it not to allow feeders in certain slots.

Thank you

Did you update the configuration for the new camera? After changing the configuration I think you have to power cycle the machine for the new settings to take effect.

The install was done by an engineer who does not work for us anymore, so I don't know what was done, the camera operates fine though. Can the size of it be re-configured without re-calibration? Could you tell me the menus to use.

We use the old OS/2 software so I don't know if it will be the same as yours. System Setup->Machine->Configuration then click on the camera graphic and a configuration screen for that camera will pop up. Verify that your configuration matches the camera you have physically mounted on the machine.

Questions: 1. Has your old camera back-lighting feature (the back and front towers able to raise) and the whole unit looks rectangular? 2. Has Your new camera ring lighting feature?

If yes on both questions; the new camera will take up 2 more feeder slots and everything will be solved through the system setup.

You need to tell the machine that You have installed a so called ring-lighting camera with the proper information about the camera resolution: for ex. 4mil/pixel, 2.6mil/pixel, 1mil/pixel etc. This is important!

The camera model is printed on a label on the side of the camera. From the setup menu (depending on what s/w You are on to, there are several different kind of drop down menus) select parameters > cameras > P2P (Part to Pad looking camera or upper looking camera) > front or rear >> select the corresponding camera that You have installed. After that: just save and follow the instructions on the screeen.

By the way, an important thing is: You MUST re-calibrate Your new camera! While doing this calibration; it will not only do the cameras but the whole machine; heads, spindles etc. after that You should re-calibrate the nozzle changer, feeder banks etc. If this has been a while since the last calibration, Your camera change could actually optimize Your placement accuracy and machine performance.

But You need to optain the calibration-kit; UIC charges a very high price for this calibration-kit, something like 10-15000$US. But at least here in Europe, UIC let us hire this kit from them and this is what we do once in a while (still very expensive).

As an answer to Your original question: Can the size of it be re-configured without re-calibration? Yes! If You do not load the default calibration parameters of that camera.

Do not hesitate to ask if there are something un-clear, we are happy to help You out. /Sincerly

Thanks for the info. Yes the old camera was a 4mil rectangle, and the new one is a 1mil circle, 2 slots wider. The camera was calibrated on install, but they must have done something wrong, cos it doesn't realise it is 2 slots short. This screws up the throughput optimisation! We don't have a kit and my bosses won't pay for/ hire one.

The camera type is not set correctly. (Machine config edit -> Parameters -> Cameras) Look at the camera serial tag and you should see C4 or OAL or C4 OAL. Make sure the camera type is set to strobed RS170 (C4) or whatever type you have. Then set defaults for this camera, and power cycle. This will fix the feeder problem, but I am not sure if re-calibration will be required.

No camera re-calibration is required. Just don't load the deafult calibration parameters. /
