Dear Colleagues,

We are looking at entry level AOI solutions. We are currently evaluating the Mirtec AOI MV-2HTL. We are also looking at Vitech because of their perceived "edge" in the industry. I know that this forum has approached this question before but I would be very interested in any new opinions.

Brian,

We have the Mirtec Table Top. It is very good at detecting the component and orientation. It is however only as good as we program it to be. We have seen some limitations in respect to solder connections. I have not found it to be 100% reliable when inspecting solder connections for fine pitch IC's or 0402's. It is however nearly perfect for packages using 0603 and bigger. Again, the machine is only as good as we program it to be.

Very easy to program.

You should also check out YesTech. Both companies should give you in house demo's and be willing to leave a machine there to try out for 30 days. They are with out a doubt only as good as the programmer. I think the support from Yestech would be better and I think its a great machine. I have also heard good things about the Mirtec. If your high mix low volume, I would doubt Vi would be a good choice but its always worth looking into every option.

I appreciate your comments regarding the programmability of the Mirtec. What type of SMT machine do you use? How easy have you found it to transfer the SMT profiles to the Mirtec? How do you rate the Mirtec in handling top/bottom, multi-panel assemblies that have mixed technology (SM & thru-hole, hand-place).

Any comments you are willing to provide are appreciated!

Hi Few weeks back for the similar thread I was enquiring about the performance of benchtop AOI. I did see the Saki m/c.It seems to be a good m/c with different technology. I have not bought yet. Looking to have more feedback. Any opinion about Saki?

We recently purchased a Mirtec AOI machine, it take a bit to program but overall we are pleased. The machine has a downward looking camera, we have had some issues with the machine not catching opens. When a IC has it's legs bent straight up off the pads for whatever reason the machine will see the leg, see the solder and pass the joint. It also takes a little bit of trickery to teach TH parts. SMT it works great except for the leg up issues. Mirtech is supposed to be coming out with a machine that will look at the joints at an angle, this will fix the issues we have come across. By the way we could not get a Yestech demo machine, they prefer to fly the customer to CA for a demo in there control enviroment. Just my 2 cents worth.
