Double sided design | 24 August, 2005

Hello,

we are currently designing our first PCB with surface mount components on both sides of the board. I understand about solder thieves in order to help short circuits. Are there any good white papers or books which identify the best practices when designing double sided PCBs. I am looking for things like pad to pad and pad to via clearnces, the best way to pass a PLCC/QFP through a chip wave etc..

Thanks

IPC-2221A, Generic Standard on Printed Board Design, the base document that covers all generic requirements for printed board design, regardless of materials. From there, the designer can choose the appropriate sectional standard for a specific technology.

Sectional standards are: * IPC-2222, Sectional Design Standard for Rigid Organic Printed Boards * IPC-2223, Sectional Design Standard for Flexible Printed Boards * IPC-2224, Sectional Standard for Design of PWBs for PC Cards * IPC-2225, Sectional Design Standard for Organic Multichip Modules (MCM-L) and MCM-L Assemblies * IPC-2226, Sectional Design Standard for High Density Interconnect (HDI) Printed Boards.
