We have a problem. Because of a screening problem we have some PCB's whit tinlead on the gold fingers. If we remove it mechanicly, the gold also is removed.

We want to repair the pcb's by removing the tinlead and repair the goldfingers. How can we repair it.

We used to have an goldsolution cyanide-based. I don't want to use that, because of the danger whit working whit that solution.

There's a lot of good stuff on prevention in the fine SMTnet Archives. Here's an oldie, but a goodie. http://www.smtnet.com/forums/Index.cfm?CFApp=1&Message_ID=15848

On repairing the boards you have, without using cyanide, try: * http://www.circuittechctr.com

RB,

We have a gold finger problem here at our plant. Our kapton tape came off in the wave process and now we have 8 PCB's that have silver fingers. We are waiting on our new A.P.E. SRS-069 Gold Finger Plater. This mircle machine is going to fix all our problems....per the salesman. We have serveral ladies in our shop that have actually seem this mircle machine work. It seems simple enough, first you remove the solder and sand the finish to base copper, use some magic juice on it, then you apply the liquid gold, stick the 2 magic probes on the finger and POOF now you have a newly plated finger. The gold solution is kind of steep, but if it works like we hear.....we now have another service for our sales team to offer. I will keep you posted. You might want to check it out "www.ape.com"....price $735.00. You can also get a board house to replate the fingers....but when we checked into it would have cost us $500.00 so we opted for our own machine. We even had one borad house tell us that they use this machine for repairs and it does a great job. Good luck.

Mrduckmann2000: While your machine sounds neat, the "magic juice" is exactly what RB is trying to avoid. Look here: http://www.ape.com/images/msds/6911-1336%20GOLD.doc
