Does anyone know why my MPM AP-27 machine would forget its fiducials? I make the program, save it, and then when I run the program it says it doesn't recognise the board even though I just taught it! Has anyone else had this type of problem or have any answers?

Thank you, Grant

I fear your files are not stored in the default directory or your hard drive is full. Boot with a DOS boot disc and check your C drive for program and fiducial information. Try an older program to check if the program structure and vision information are still intact. The vision processor is not likely to be blamed, because it doesn't have a memory storage. Upon power up, the vision system is initialized with information from the hard drive.

Your MPM memory evidently full. When you save file sure that is saved correctly .Always save file during printer work .

Is it only this 1 job? Is the error "board model not found"? I have had instances where I taught the Fids. and it still didn't like them in production. Is the board fid. in the center of the screen when you try to run the job?

Yeah it says "board model not found", occasionally it will say "Stencil model not found" or something very similar. Do you have the exact same machine? It only shows a small live video image in the bottom of the screen (about 4cm sq.), I cant remember where the fid is. Could you tell me why where the fid is on the screen should affect how it works, and how I can change it.

Its strange cos sometimes I've been able to run 2 or 3 boards then it will say "board model not found". It happened last time but resolved itself somehow in the end.

This is only the 3rd job I've run on it, but this is a second hand machine with lots of boards already listed.

Thanks for the info, I'll try checking how full the hard drive is. Although it doesn't say its full. It is DOS based.

Oh Yeah, I've had an AP27 I would say it just doesn't like your fid. Just click on the window in the bottom left and it'll go full screen (then click main menu to return). Check the easy stuff first, Make sure you have a consistant load (in the center of the worknest). Try reteaching fids. or teach new ones. Is this a fid or pad?

Does the board appear to be in the right possition on the conveyor when the camera comes to look at it?

If you have concluded that it is not a file storage problem you may wish to consider - When setting up a job the camera can move to virtually any position. This does not mean that the actuators on the stencil or board have enough travel to align the two objects. You may do a test align and everything is OK but the next pcb will not align as it may be mechanically different by as little as 0.1mm - the camera can see the fids but the actuators cannot achieve the required offset. When you set up the job remove any previous actuator offsets from the file and home the machine.Get the pcb into print position. Get the stencil in there and physically move it so that it aligned with the pcb with the naked eye. Then do up the screws etc. If you can't roughly align the pcb with the stencil with no actuator offsets - you may be in trouble. Your stencil could be poorly aligned with the frame so you cannot achieve a match. If this is in the X direction you should be able to move the board stop either mechanically or with the software to achieve a result. Y axis you should be able to move the stencil. R axis - take a grinder to the stencil frame so you can turn it some more. This may take some skullduggery as many machines do not want you to do this because of safety issues. You may have to try variations on opening covers, E-Stops,Diagnostic Modules etc before you can do this without the machine spitting out the board before you can roughly align the stencil. If your machine runs direct drive couplings from the motor to the ball screw for the camera in any axis it is also possible that the coupling is fractured or broken and the machine will misread according to the direction the camera is moving. Hopefully it is a file storage problem.

Re: 23-Jun-05 16:09 (pr)

It is a pad, cos the fids on the PCB are in a different place to the ones on the stencil.
