Has anyone here had direct experience using this oven for Lead Free? I am considering purchasing one, but I want to be certain it will handle low volume lead free work. Pete

Great oven but i believe those ovens came out before lead free was even a sparkle in someones eye.

What alot of you are not realizing is that Lead Free can be done on certain ovens already out there. And I have had success with the Quad ZCR for Lead Free.

Therefore, it is not necessay to purchase a brand new oven to implement lead free.

I am sure you can reflow lead free in any oven but i thought i read that lead free requires a cooling stage to get the solder joints reflowed "correctly".

Extra cooling is better (Alpha recommends -3 to -7 degC/sec) for cosmetics. Less chance of s o called 'cooling lines' that look similar to 'cold' tin-lead joints. (Seems a bit steep to me - I worry about the risk of cracking ceramic caps.)

Might be better "metallurgically" but I haven't seen anyone delve into that deeply yet with a data-driven study - just some mount and polish pics of the grain structures at various cooling rates.

Right now I'm doing my lead free reflow with a -1.8 to -2.0 degC/sec cooling rate. Passed vibration to 7G, thermal cycle (air to air -40 to 90degC), temp and humidity exposure, and thermal shock (150 degC air to 0 degC water). Seems alright to me.
