Need Quad IVC Help | 11 March, 2005

I need help on a Quad IVC. We are having intermitant problems. What happens is it runs and then all of a sudden the Z goes down into the feeder past the limit. I have changed the Z motor, cleared the memory, and also swapped motion controller boards. It works for awhile and then back to the same problem. I also do a function 30 and it runs for a little while longer. But each time I do a function 30 I get a different Z height anywhere from 140 to 250. If anyone has seen this problem please let me know. Thanks much.

Changed the one from the head board, but no luck. Just wondering if it could be the Quad Align Cable?

I would change the Quad Align cable. If you have a spare head board swap that out as well. Make sure your Quad Align lenses are clean. If the camera is smudged then you can have some problems aligning parts as well. Let us know what you find. Cheers.

I changed both cables and still the same thing. I have not changed the quad align cable yet. Any other ideas. Also when I do a run pickup 1 it works normal but when I am in run mode forget it, the z-rod now dont even go all the way down.

i agree with changing the head board if the ribbon cables have been changed. I would also check the quad align card and make sure the cables are plugged in tight to it and to the backplane. There is a large connector on the backplane that sometimes falls out

good luck

Could it possibly a z-up sensor?

no...its losing its position and it homes ok so the sensor is not the problem.....there is a mod code that sets the illumination level for the quad align....make sure that is at 200 or higher. You may want to change the qa card if you have another one. Also reseat the epcu card....

have fun

Also check the z-rod and make sure it is not compressed.

Are you absolutely sure that you changed the x-y ribbon cables....the z is controlled through those cables and almost all the time one of the cables has an intermittent open. I think there is a small card in the top of the machine (under the black cover) that could go bad also......check to see if it is ok.....if i remember correctly....the resistors would burn out if it went bad.

oh....bye the way....there are dip switches on the driver cards that need set correctly when swapping them.....i hope you set the correct switches when swapping or you probably will never get it to work.

Did you get your answer? From all the reading I've done since your posting, does this issue happen when running a "specific" program or any/all programs ? Just a thought, as MOD codes can be tricky. Also check the thru-holes on that backplain conn that guy mentioned, as I've seen where there was no solder in those holes! Believe it or not! The vibration of the machine running caused me a very similiar issue.
