RoHS Compliance of Chormium coating on connectors | 3 December, 2004

Hi Everyone, Could someone please tell me -

What happens if a N-type connector having chromate coating over silver plating is hand soldering to a PCB. Does the Chromate coating form a compound with silver, Or does it come off while cleaning excess flux. This is with relation to RoHS compliance that does not allow us to use Chromium.

We're unaware of any such reaction.

The RoHS Directive bans the use of six hazardous materials. The materials are four metals: lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and mercury; and two brominated flame retardants: polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
