What is anyone using to clean Siemens ceramic nozzles. Siemens recommends a 20% ethanoic solution or a 20% acidic solution but they can't tell me anyone who manufactures this type of cleaning solution. I was using alcohol but was told not to because alcohol will eat away at the adhesive used to hold the nozzle tip to the nozzle base.Any suggestions ???

You should start by determining what adhesive is being used in the nozzle. Once you know that, finding a chemical that will work should be a lot easier.

Siemens really can't tell you what to use for this? That sounds odd, they have never cleaned any of their own nozzles? With support like that (can't cover the simplest things like maintenance) I will ensure that I don't ever consider this company for equipment.

I'm pretty sure someone at Siemens can tell me, I just haven't found the right person yet. I've been asking field tech's but those guys never have to clean nozzles so they don't know. I'll forward my question to their main office. I just thought someone out in the SMT world would already know. Thanks for your reply....

As far I know, Siemens has a patent for the joining method of the plastic nozzle and the ceramic tip. It is not glued together. Unless you use an acid dissolving the plastic, you may use any cleaning method and the nozzle shouldnt come apart. However, Siemens informed their customers, that after market nozzles of a lower quality (possibly glued) should not be used. If in doubt, you are using an OEM product or made in XXX, I would use water and dish washer soap.

Hi,

We have a solution for you. We are selling smt nozzle cleaner. It can be used to clean 1005, 0603 and 0402 nozzles. The equipment does not use any solvents. Just DI water and compressed air will do the job. Its more effective than ultrasonic cleaning.

Hi just to clear a few things, We produce the nozzles and the parts are manufactured in two stages, CIM and plastic injection moulded, we designed the rear end of the ceramic tip with spikes so when the secondary operation on plastic over mould the plastic secures itself tightly onto tip, No need for glue, as for cleaning we recommend a really light detergent/soapy, and rinse thoroughly, the problem with acidic solutions is the plastic Vectra does weaken over time. Hope this helps
