Hi Ozzy,

Second one sounds like a 220nf /0.22uf 16v tant. No idea on the first.

I think the first is a .1uF because it is being used as a charge pump cap on a max202cpe.

If you know the mfg. you can go to their website and they should have a list of coding that will show you the alphanumeric code scheme. The "striped part is definitely a tant 2.2 uF 16 V. The other if the coding is the same as the parts we use is a .1uF cap (a5) I believe that the "1" is for either tolerance or size. You should verify this however.

If this code is on a ceramic cap then it is a 0.1uf cap. We have a conversion charts that list most all codes. Useing the last 2 digets only determine the value. The capatol letters A thru Z are given specfic numerical value. Example A0 is 1.0pf, A1 is 10pf, A2 is 100pf, A3 is 1000pf, A4 is .01uf, and A5 is .1uf. The second diget is used as an exponent or multiplier. The codes all following are in pf having the last diget as 0. for B(B0) is 1.1, C is 1.2, D is 1.3, E is 1.5, F is 1.6, G is 1.8, H is 2.0, J is 2.2 K is 2.4, L is 2.7, M is 3.0, N is 3.3, O is 3.6, P is 3.9, R is 4.3, S is 4.7, T is 5.1, U is 5.6, V is 6.2, W is 6.8, X is 7.5, Y is 8.2, Z is 9.1. Note no I,Q in list. Example a code of AG3 uses only last two digets G3, G0 is 1.8pf for G3 move decimal 3 places to the right gives the value of 1800pf. If only lower case letter given then the value is a=2.5pf, b=3.5pf, d=4.0pf, e=4.5pf, f=5.0pf, m=6.0pf, n=7.0pf, t=8.0pf, and y=9.0pf.

Ozzy, it is a 1uf cap, not a .1. The 5 indicates 5 zeros after the 1. The MAX-232ACPE uses .1 uf caps. You indicated that it was not the "A" version.

Phil, you are incorrect on the value! You are right the 5 does signify the number of 0s to be 5, So when you move the decimal point 6 places to convert into uFarads from picoFarads you end up with .1, A 1uF cap has a 6

Check out http://clivetec.superihost.com/Capacitors.html there are tables there that will let you work out your values.

No Phil is not. I checked out his site and that shows reel codes and codes for dialetric and electrolitic caps. Monolithic multi layer caps are coded diferantly. Check out this page at http://www.vishay.com/docs/45028/vitmark.pdf
