Hi ,

I am having an issue with my Mydata TP11 UFP. About 2 yrs ago I upgraded from TPSYS 1.6 to TPSYS 2.2.4 to enable me to use the agilis feeders. This involved an operating system change from Venix (Unix Clone) to a version of Linux. the upgrade inculded both a software and hardware element. Since then I have had a Hard disk failure at least every 6 months and its now becoming more frequent. Has anybody else had similar experiences and if so was the root cause identified rather that just putting in a new hard disk ?

Hi Bernard,

Sorry mate but it sounds like it's the Hard Drive ageing - we are seeing this more frequently on our older machines.

Hope you've got the install disks & part library/program backups as they don't always like being ghosted.

Hope I'm wrong,

Rob.

We have the same machines and same software. We have not seen this problem.

I agree, sounds like your hard drive is taking a dump.

Thanks for the Feedback -- Yes the hard-disks is taking a dump -- This will be the fourth new hard drive since I did the upgrade from Tpsys 1.6 to Tpsys 2.2 Mydata can't really come up with a reason --I can't believe that I am just being 'unlucky' getting poor quality drives all the time -- The original drive last 4 years without issue. I think it is some other issue -- Given you have the same machine and S/W with no issue I guess its pointing to the CPU rather than the S/W

Thanks Again

Bernard

With this many hard drive problems, I would search in other directions. You may have a defective power supply or a bus switch on the motherboard. I would dump the entire computer. With Linux you have to be a bit more selective in the components. I would try to get the same video and LAN card and even then you may not be able to copy the content of the old hard drive to the new one and you have to go through Linux set up.
