Conformal Coating Machines

Hey folks, time to put the collective brain into motion. I need to source a conformal coating machine for some medium volume production of assorted PCBA's. I'm looking for something that's easy to program, accurate, good running costs and all that good stuff. Coatings are likely to be acrilic I think, customer currently used DCA in a can... but I aint spraying 25000 PCB's by hand. So who has experience of what machine, is it any good, was it bad, what were the issues? Also interested in what types of material people have been using. Products are mostly a mix between industrial and household stuff.

cheers

John

Recently introduced to machine spraying. Used a PVA2000. Worked out OK. Steep learning curve though. Programming time consuming but relatively sraight forward. Point the spray head and teach the 'path' you want it to take.

Used acrylic coating and the end results where good. Not had any experience of other coatings.

Good luck,

Loz

Hi, Can this machine control the coated thickness very tight and good repeatability.

Thanks.

You should look at the Asymtek Conformal Coating machines. The C-740 is easy to program, high throughput and proven repeatability. Used at top electronics and automotive manufacturing sites throughout Europe, Asia-pacific, and the Americas.

I am working on an acrylic coating with solid content around 30%, I want to control the coated thickness to be 1 mil exactly. Any experience on this. Best regards.

it is not practical to target an exactly 1 mil film thickness, the materials manufacturers do not give an exact solid content figure but only a target range. temperature and batch preparation also play a small role.

You could probably target 1 mil plus since the lack of proper thickness tends to be more critical than the excess of coating.

Another way to approach slowly the desired thickness is atomizing and making several passes until the desired thickness is achieved; time consuming and labor intensive.
