hi all What do you think about soldering pb-free in reflow oven (air) lenght 1,7m (5 zones top,bottom) with max zone temp. 300C? Do you think that this process will be stable? Our max PCb dimension 260x260 mm. When i compare different oven producer they have very long oven begin from 3m and zone's temp 350C. What do you think about BTU VIP series reflow oven for lead free process. Does any one have any experiences with it? What do you think about BTU reflow oven? Rob

BTU as well as most oven manufactuers have great products. If they fit what your looking for and can give you good support(preferably local) then you should not really see any quality problems with their products. With the oven max temperature of 300 degrees C and a pcb dimension of 260x260 you should be ok, unless that board has many layers. Having only 5 zones only means that you have to work a little harder on your profiling and testing the boards to obtain the correct profile. Contact BTU, these are questions that they would love to hear probably know a whole lot more about thier specific models vs others. Good Luck

Look to the no-Pb solderpaste mfr. specs for on-board temps. For example, Indium Corp. has a product that performs at on-board temps of 229C. Now, your BTU oven will handle this no problem, as will most modern ovens. Its all about thermal mass. Look at temp setting on you oven now to get 220C on-board. If you are setting spike zone temp at like 260C to get 220C on-board with a BTU VIP, then I'd say you must have hi-thermal mass boards or a big problem with your oven. 63Pb/37Sn alloys have a melting point of 183C and typical on-board temps of 210 to 220C. No-Pb alloys require a little higher delta here to get satifactory results.
