LED COLOR ILLUMINATION

LED COLOR ILLUMINATION | 23 May, 2004

Our printers feedswith consist of 2 LEDs next to each other designed to illuminate in green, red, and amber simultanuosly per operation. The green and red in the LED create the amber (orange) color. Although, we are experiencing a high defect rate due to one LED lighting up in light Yellow and the other, Amber. Thus, not matching. The LED supplier says the LEDs meets there spec although they can't provide me with these values. I want to learn more about LEDs to help solve this problem since I am not getting the support from this supplier. We had this problem before with the same supplier a few years back and the root cause was the "angle of the die". The supplier says this time it is not related to the die but no data to prove this.

How can I measure the 'angle of the die' at my end (customer)? What tools or equipment can I use? What are on the LED can I measure?

How can I measure intensity? What tools or equipment can I use? Will this help me?

I will probably will need a new suppier that can meet our requirement and want to qualify the supplier using variable data. I am only concerned with the color. What equipment is out there to measure color and not rely on a subjective test?

Please help. Thank you.
