We currently use the bartector system on our CP6. It has saved us quite a few times with wrong part numbers being loaded on the wrong location. (rework for certain parts would have been a nightmare) It is extremely easy to use. I was not involved in the purchase so I do not have a price. I do know we bought it from Brock Electronics in Canada. Phone number is 905-954-0505

Hi, We have been using the Crest Solutions Reelscan system here for about 3 years on 8 lines and it has pretty much eliminated wrong part placement. We use it on a variety of SMT placement machines and i believe it can be adapted to any type of placement m/c, either smt or manual. Excellent system by the way-it can be linked to the machines to prevent a restart until verification has taken place. Powerful reporting too, down to identifing an individual reel, not just the partnumber.

Why?

All major component manufacturers' reels come with barcodes already on them or if not they (& their distributors) are set up to issue them, requiring no additional work or cost to fit the process, but I don't know of anyone who ships with RFID tags on as standard.

Surely the step of adding these can cause additional errors & cost- unless I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here (if so, I apologise in advance).

Basically they are tiny EEproms powered by an induction loop.

The EEproms or "Tags" store a unique identifier on them and can be read (or written too) by the small RF field generated by an induction loop reader from upto around a couple of feet away.

They are also known as contactless smartcards and can be found in some ski resorts (for lift passes), London underground, and now in some cars for the immobilisers.

They are also used as security tags on clothes in some shops - the large metal hoops by the doors are the induction loops.

I know this is not the appropriate forum for commercial content, but I wish to clarify how RFID technology is deployed within Cogiscan's solution. The most common configuration involves the attachment of an RFID tag to each Feeder (not to each Reel). Standard barcode labels on reels are used to establish the data link between each Reel and Feeder. The RFID tag on each feeder is subsequently used to monitor the specific location of the feeder in real time - both on and off the machine - and without the need for any additional barcode scanning.
