Zones Temperature for ReflowOven | 26 January, 2004

Hello to all of you, I'm running some small pcb's about 2.5x3.5 inches, can somebody tell me the zone temps and speed in meters/min that I have to use to get the best solder paste shine and best quality, is an oven of 8 zones. I apreciate your support and information....

The primary driver to the set points for your oven is not the board or the number of zones in your oven. It's your paste.

If you need a "ball park" guesstimate as a starting point, your equipment supplier is probably the best place to start. So for a Heller 1800S oven, Mark Peo [Heller Industries, President] might say, 115, 125, 145, 145, 145, 180, 220, and 255 with a belt speed of 93.345cm/min (about 36.75in/min), (assuming all of zone lengths are 14.7").

Our design engineers were always a pain in the keester when they wanted to prototype a new board. They wanted to use a production oven. AND they wanted to use it NOW!!! [Like we have time for that foolishness.]

So, we bought them a Oster toaster oven. [Other ovens will work also. They cost less than $100.] They are happy as pigs in slop. [And they can warm their bagels to boot!!!]
