My company is developing a product that will require solder paste to be printed on a piece of cast aluminum. The surface of the casting is not completely flat. It has been recommended that one way to work around this might be to use a screen instead of a stencil for printing. Our stencil vendor cannot supply this. Does anyone know of a vendor with a fast turn around (2 to 3 days) that might be able to supply a few options. Thanks in advance, John S

Hi John- Maybe I am miss reading this but I can not see where a Screen instead of a stencil will benefit you. Is the thinking the screen is plyable enough to contour to the surface?

That is the thought. I haven't been able to get the materials together yet to start printing anything. The time frame is very short though, so I'm trying to locate as many options as possible. We've seen as much as 0.025" TIR variation in the surface of these parts. John S

If you desire fairly uniform paste deposits, consider dispensing your solder paste. Neither a screen, nor a stencil will conform to the rough surface commonly seen in cast aluminum blocks, as you mention.

Just out of curiosity: * What flux type and solder alloy do you plan to use in your paste? * For what purpose are you putting the paste on this aluminum block?
