How to prevent defective material from getting to stock? | 14 August, 2003

I was recently given a copy of the "Tin Whisker Agency Action Notice" I was then asked to recommend and implement a action to prevent the suseptible components from reaching our stockroom. Since I can not commit my personel to activly research which components may or may not be pure tin plated. I need some ideas on how to satisfy our customers (mostly government) that we will not be using pure tin. I know we can tell our vendors pure tin is unacceptable, but the vendors don't control the manufacturers. Has anyone had to deal with this? Can you give some ideas on how to resolve the problem? Thanks, Andrea

Get into the plastics business! No tin there!

Although DaveF's answer was probably more applicable and there is some really good info on Tin Whiskers it doesnt really answer the question either from what I saw. I suspect this will become a much larger issue as we all are weaned off of lead!
