Clear Anodizing

I know that this is not really SMT related, but does anyone have any knowledge of any process for removing clear anodizing from aluminum ? I am trying to find a way of removing the anodizing without dissolving any of the aluminum.

Thanks

What is "clear anodizing"? Regular anodizing is an aluminum oxide ceramic on the surface of the aluminum.

For soup to nuts on removing regular aluminum anodizing, look here: http://www.finishing.com/4800-4999/4884.html

Clear anodizing is anodizing solution that does not have any dye added to it.

Removing anodize can be done by just about anyone who does anodizing. Check your local metal finishing facilities and speak to someone who will guarantee no loss of material if that is what is important.

Hi

It was a good answer that you should talk to a Metal Finisher specializing in Anodizing. They should be able to reduce your loss in base Aluminum. You are going to lose some Aluminum.

Metals Handbooks has some articles on these processes. Try finding a metalurgist that has a set by the ASM. Here is one web site http://www.asm-intl.org/
