We use our ultrasonic stencil cleaner.

Before we change the wash solution, we clean pallets, chains, fingers, etc. It does a good job and takes only a few minutes.

I've used a wire brush on a drill then rinsed in a bucket of water.

Be careful on how you go about this. Some older wave chains will have anywhere from a bit to lot of lead embedded into the grease. Ive had best luck sending it out to a shop that can hot tank them. Costs about $25 and it comes back all clean and lubed. If you want to rent a steam washer, make sure your not washing all the heavy metals down the drain. Good luck.

Good Day,

We have been searching for ways to do this very thing. We have sent them out for cleaning in hot baths, ultrasonics, pressure wash, etc... The chains have come back cleaner than they left but not perfect. At one point, one of our engineers took the chains home, placed them in his self cleaning oven and ran a clean cycle. After the smoke cleared and his wife threatened to divorce him, the chains were clean! We have since purchased a used self cleaning oven and have lived happily ever after. I know this sounds unconventional, but it works.

Hope this helps....

Chris
