I am an EMS provider building mixed technology assemblies. We are currently using Universal Multi Mod and VCD machines for our auotomated thru-hole. These are the 20 year old technology machines and I am investigating alternative pieces of equipment for the Radial and Axial applications. Does anyone have any input on the newer Universal equipment (last 5 years), Panasonic , or any ohter auotomated Equipment from this Industry? Pros, cons, etc.

Have you looked at TDK's VC series? The newer vintage models are gems (VC7's, etc), but hard to find. Good Luck.

You might want to check out a microline drill from LPKF Laser. It can drill holes down to 2 mil and do 2 mil lines and spacings.

Yeah, but can they place through-hole?

We looked at Panasert's Radial a couple years ago. Some big advantages over the Radial Lead 5's that we had at the time, but couldn't deal efficiently with all of our electrolytic cap orientations. We wanted to look at Univ. RL 8's but they didn't have one at the show (2000 Apex). Ended up keeping the 5's anyway...
