Feeder Protection Plates on Siplace S20 | 22 May, 2002

Has anyone out there installed these devices on an S20 or had a head crash without them? Are they worth the investment to safeguard the machine? Is there another solution that one might consider?

I don't know how much Siemens charges for this option, but I guess we both know what a new head costs. Siemens did let go on more service techs. last weekend. They all can install this option for less than Siemens quoted. If you can't find a tech. in your area, contact me: www.steering-inc.com

We have had the crash protection installed on all of our machines and they are worth their weight in gold! Siemens installed some of ours on a special they were running last year, I believe it ran about $1,700.00 per machine, remember its a buyers market and everything is negotiable.

So what exactly is a feeder protection plate and how does it protect the head when it decides to continuously accelerate until it achieves its allowable travel distance on the machine? How often does this happen?

To make it simple: A Feeder protection plate is just a flat piece of metal that hangs over the feeders, inside the machine, and keeps the feeder cover from popping up and crashing the head.

We got a pair and installed them with little trouble. One hole to drill and tap per side. Activates the e-stop but no message on the HMI.

we had the fedder protection plates installed for about 6 months but ended up removing them as the plates were more hassel than there worth.The bolt on the estop swith kept slipping off and stopping the machine during produstion.It was very frustrating as the plates were very flimsy and not operator proof.
