Philips Topaz X vs. Samsung CP45FV | 11 May, 2002

Can anyone tell me which machine is better - Philips Topaz X or Samsung CP45FV? The machine is for contract manufacturing services with midium volume, high mix boards.

For What It Is Worth

I can only tell you I have had both Philips & Samsung machines. The Philips seems to be very flexible and the parts library is better than the Samsung. I had 2 QSA-30 Quad machines which were made by Samsung and Defining parts seemed to be harder.

What is you mix and how many tray parts do you have?

Both are good machines. I think the variable here is : 1)The topaz has been around longer and more time to be refined. 2) Support structure- I give the nod to Assembleon for this one. They have a stronger Apps and FS devision.

Are these the only two machines you are concidering??

Mladen, I am in contract manufacturing using the regular Philips Topaz. I started with one now I have four, if market ramps up will be getting more. The Topaz regular can place 0201,BCC,BGA's,Micro BGA's and others depending on the configuration of the camera you sellect. On one of my lines we even have a CP642 in line with a Topaz.

Great machines.

Good luck.
