| | Children, | | Let's stop the squabbling. SMTNET is here for us to use. It may run slower but it is still a very effective and necessary tool. It's amazing, as we progress further into the information age, we become spoiled and frustrated about an additional three or four seconds of waiting. Those adds that you see are there to fund this site. Without them, there would be no SMTNET. I know the trade rags are becoming increasing filled with industry propaganda. "MY toy is better than your toy because MY study says so, just ask ME." I am a young engineer and I'm not overly excited about the trend. However, there is some useful information contained in some of those ADVERTISEMENTS (I didn't know that word was spelled entirely in capital letters either) What the industry has to realize is that there are some of us out here who can actually sort through all the bull. Those of us who can are more than likely going to be in an equipment procurement position at some point. When this happens, all the fictitious, lab | | created testing results in the world aren't going to get your product in my facility. Only the product itself will earn it's right to be purchased. Keep that in mind Ad guys. You may be able to sell to the naive but you will never make it into a respectable organization if your credibility is shot. | | | | Regards, | | Justin Medernach | | Mfg. Eng. | | Flextronics Int'l | | PIC East | Ok, folks....I've bit my tongue too long regarding this subject. | Justin makes very good points here. When I started in this crazy biz in 1972, there were NO mentors to speak of. There were NO trade rags. Info was held "close to the chest". the learning curve to become proficient was *very* long as compared to today's standards. I envy the newer folks to the industry. | You have a wide world of info in your hands, and yet some of you insist on complaining about advertising..... | May I suggest that those who don't like the ads go elsewhere. Kinda hard line, but sheesh! SMTNet has to float their expenses some way. Quit bitchin', and start learnin'! | As the engineers of the future, your responsibilities are to filter through the BS and use the myriad of info that's available to you as Mfg / Process / Quality Engineers. A good engineer never knows *all* of the answers, but he / she *does* know WHERE to find them. This forum is potentially such a place. What a goldmine! | A few advertisements on site to keep this thing viable for the administrators is a small price to pay for the info that's avail. on this forum. Just listen to some of us seasoned veterans; some of us actually have a few tricks up our sleeve--heck, we have the whip marks on our backs from the mistakes we've made, and we're willing to share our previous stupidities--just ask! | Innovation is great, but sometimes the past can be a good teacher. | -Regards- | Scott Right on - as one from the 60's and 70's would say with few sources or voice capability. We used to say slow down and smell the what? Just do it, but do it right by listening and giving. Moon
