Fiducial Capture MV2F & CP4-3 | 22 August, 1998

We are using PCBs of CEM3 Material with bare copper fiducials. The whole board is of bare copper with a lacquer coating (Coats brother S2974). The fiducials are of 1 mm diameter bare copper. we use Panasert MV2F as well as Fuji CP4-3. In both the machines intermittently fiducials could not be captured. We have played with the shading & Binary vision. White reverse & black reverse in the MV2F. WE have played with CCD & Scan levels in CP4-3. Still could not find the root cause. Worked with Panasert to resolve this issue. They are also helpless. Does any one face this problem? Any solution/Recommendation is appreciated. Regards, Arul

OUr's normaly is caused by oxidation of the copper pads and it is quickly dealt with by using an eraser or contact cleaner to remove the oxidation. question.... how shiny is the laquer coating and how close does it com to the edge of the fiducial? this can also greatly affect how the machine reads the fidu. if they are both very simalar in reflectiveness, the machine will have problems recognizing the edge of the fiducial. secondly...what error code are you given on the fuji machine when this happens?. -BEn

What you may want to do is to increase the scan area and see how it work out. You can also use the trace mode to see why the CP4 is not finding the fiducial. Michael Kou
