No Fake E-mail Address Please

We have found several fake e-mail addresses on the Forum, most of them from one individual. We hereby announce that the following addresses are fake: hello@smtnet.com hi@smtnet.com astounded@smtnet.com The SMT Forum and all of SMTnet is geared toward professional use only. Your correct name and email address will allow other SMTneters and the SMTnet staff to communicate with you outside the Forum. While most other non-professional forums do not check or care if you place a "fake" name or email, we do. We are especially offended that an individual provided the above listed fake e-mail addresses @smtnet.com. Besides taking up our server resources, these fake addresses are an infringment to our reputable name. We understand your need to protect your e-mail address from being mis-used. We are considering offering an e-mail service @smtnet.com to allow you a new mailbox designated to your SMTneting use. Meanwhile, please consider setting up a free e-mail box with one of the providers such as yahoo, excite, etc. Would you use a mail service if SMTnet offers one? Please e-mail or post here if you have any comment or suggestions. We appreciate participation from all of you. This would take quite a few programing hours, but An option that might be considered to prevent Fake addresses. Is to make the forum Restricted access to only Verified users...i.e. username and password. Email ferified by a send and reply from the stated address. Unfortunately, changes like that do tend to cut down a bit on the traffic of forums..but The people who do stay and use it, stick with the forums intended purpose. Just my 2 cents -Ben

Not everyone wants or is even allowed to share their address with the general public. I have friends who can't come to a forum like this for that very reason. You force everyone to leave an email so this was to be expected, wasn't it? And stuff like happy@so and-so.com is too bogus looking to be believed by anyone. Considering that anyone can post here, SMTNet has been really lucky. Other forums get xxx rated URL links and horrible messages. People can still read, but cannot post without setting up a "user profile". I will make it short, so users can be up and running in 5 minutes. The profile will have private and public information. Also, this would save users some typing because the site would "remember" them. The PCBCE Mart requires that users give up their email address inorder to post, and that has worked well. I believe there is no reason for anyone on the internet not to have an email address, whether they want a private one is another question. Serveral institutions have them for free (ie. Microsoft, Yahoo, etc). Microsoft's hotmail is email via a web browser, so no extra email products necessary. We are thinking about having "hot mail" as a free service for our users also. Although I know there might be a need for such actions, it just seems to me that we are able to police the forum collectively and the loyal attendees will use their proper email address and NAME. I think we all have to move forward and make sure we at least enter our first name everytime, and normally both names. Gee not too much to ask for. All of us thank all of you at SMT for the services you provide.
