Pros and Cons of Panasonic MV series chipshooter ????? | 15 September, 1998

I am thinking of purchasing a Panasonic MV series chipshooter. If you own a Panasonic MV machine I would like to hear what you like and dislike about it. Is the service good? Are spare parts readily availiable? Does Panasonic support and follow up on the equipment?

We have not had to make any service calls on it. We bought the machine from my previous employer who put in an MVIIc which ran great while I was there and an MVIIf which I've also heard good things about from them. We bought a refurb'd MPA-80 pick & place from Panasonic a year ago which did require some field service to help us get up and running. The local tech. was very responsive and competent. They have on-line parts support which has improved their operation. It used to be difficult to find part numbers and prices 'cause they changed part numbers, but with the on-line system its much simpler. In this region (mid-Atlantic) support and follow-up have been very good. Send me email if you have anymore questions. Steve

It is very reliable, as are all Panasonic machines, and is very fast. The setup is straight forward provided you keep up with it in terms of feeder carts and programming. Most all Panasonic equipment is top of the line. This includes machines as the MVAP1 through the rest. Accuracy is right on and matches all other types even though the designs are a bit dated compared with some newer equipment. Technical support and software is good. Beware, these folks are out to sell (who isn't), so it's sometimes difficult to make contact locally. Just stock up on the essential spares and perform PM as specified. Earl Moon

We have 7 MV2F's, fast , accurate and relaible m/c's. The old MK1's just needed grease plastered on them and they would run forever. Back up is excellent, the only down side is the price of spares, nozzles, cutter blades, feeder spares etc .There is now a growing buisness in company's doing refurb and their own version of Pana spares. Can save you a pretty penny.

Ups: easy programming, reliable feeders, up to 300 device #'s, excellent service and support (midwest) Downs: spare parts costs, although they are improving

Do the double 8mm feeders work? I've heard from other sources that they are not as reliable as singles. Also, does a 12 mm feeder take up the space of 1 or 1.5 8mm feeders. Are you using the PanaPro software for the easy programming that you mention? Thanks Peter
