Go into the cartridge on your photocopier or printer and take some of the black carbon powder that's laying around in there. Fill the vacancy with the black powder, use a razor blade to "squeegee" away the excess. Now cover the deposition with Kapton tape. Just reteach the fiducial and you should be ready to roll.

HELLO MR NATE. I WONDER IT'S GOING TO BE YOUR HELP. I DON'T UNDERSTAND TO MAKE STENCIL FIDUCIALS USING INK. IS THERE VISION SYSTEM OVER STENCIL IN YOUR MACHINE. IN MY CASE (THERE IS VISION SYETEM UNDER THE STENCIL IN MY M/C) WE ALWAYS MAKE FIDUCIALS USING HALF ECHING OR HALF LASER. SO THE FIDUCIALS IS PERMANENT

Nate,

If your stencil vendor has laser-cutting capabilities, they should be able to burn in your fiducial locations. This process involves re-setting the focus of the laser beam to burn the locations 1-3 mils into the surface (as opposed to 1/2 cutting those locations and filling with epoxy).

I have found this to be a permanent solution for BOTTOM side fiducials. Top, or squeegee-side fiducials (ala GSP4000, GSP5000 printers) are a different story, as the squeegee is pretty rough on anything on that side of the stencil.

I've used the fill and cover method as a quick fix also. At which point I usually contact the supplier and ask for some of their epoxy to refill the fids myself, return the bad one for them to refill the fiducials, or best case, ask for a new one.
