Wave Solder Fluxing

Wave Solder Fluxing | 26 October, 1998

We have installed a Sonoflux atomized mist fluxing unit (Model 9500)on our Future 1 wave solder machine. We are concerned that the retrofitting of this unit may not have been appropriate for our equipment, as we are now experiencing many problems with flux volume, uniform application, ect. As we understand it, the Sonoflux unit is to be place ahead of the wave solder machine, but because of the height of the conveyor on the Hollis machine, this is impossible. The technician that installed the unit said "we'll make it work". Has anyone experienced similar problems with a atomizer placed inside the wave solder machine? Does anyone know if it is inappropriate to retrofit a unit like this into a Hollis machine and what problems might be experienced? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I looked at the SOnoTek fluxers a year and a half ago, they just didn't seem to have real uniform application standing alone, either. My guess is that the exhaust draw from the inside of your machine is affecting the spray pattern. These are pretty tiny little particles, so it doesn't take much to change the direction they're getting sprayed in.

I would try shutting off all the dampers to the machine and running the fluxer to verify if it is an affect of the exhaust. If it is, you'll just have to build some type of baffles around the fluxer to limit the effects.

Other machine manufacturers (Like Electrovert) offer ultrasonic spray fluxers mounted inside the machines, so I'm sure it's possible. I'm not sure how they limit the exhuast, however.

Good Luck,

Chrys
