Operation userinterface of the machine | 10 November, 1998

Some placement machines has WindowsNT userinterface, and some has another type of userinterface. Although I think the WindowsNT is better for engineers, it seems not so friendly for some machine operator. How much is the WindowsNT important to chose the machines for new production line ?

I've not had any training issues or operational problems by not having Windows. I like the focused software that isn't dependent on the whims and problems of Windows - I'd hate to see my oven go out of control because of an error with Windows.

Just my opinion, Scott

As for machine operating systems go, I prefer Windows NT over OS/2 anyday (though I grunge at the thought of promoting ANYTHING microsoft.) Since these are usually the only multi-tasking systems that are used frequently, it's not much of a choice.

My true preference is for a machine to have a unique operating system that is designed around the performance of the machine. The old Philips CSM 66/84's were classic examples.
