In-Circuit Automation

My company produces a mixed technology control unit for automotive applications. We recently purchased an automated handler for our GENRAD in-circuit testing equipment and have encountered a challenge. We have several through hole components that, if leaning in the right direction, will be crushed by the fixturing in the handler. Since this assembly is automated from wave solder to final assembly, we are searching for a way to ensure through hole components are soldered perfectly vertical or are leaning in a safe direction. Any ideas from a company that is running an automated in-circuit operation? (No, a design change to an all SMT assembly isn't possible at this time...) Thank You.
