List By Thread / List By Message | 25 February, 1999

I view "List By Thread" exclusively. So, I never realized, until today, that I am unaware of messages moving through SMTnet on "List By Message" that don't shw-up on "List By Thread." For "List By Threaders" these messages are totally unseen.

These "List By Message" people post to previous threads, sometimes six months old, but these messages are invisiable to the "List By Thread" only folk, because recently posted messages are attached to threads that rolled-off the screen months ago. Wierd. Orzit weird??

Dave,

Thank you for pointing this out to all, including us at SMTnet. We have thought about using different phrases to label these three listing options. How to you like:

list thread by beginning date; list message by date; list message by author

Or anything else that is better?

Thanks again.

Cunli

Cunli: I think the phrases are worded accurately and don't think rewording them would change the situation. Other options to consider are:

1 Make the old thread current, after someone makes a new posting 2 Just make the new message a new thread, that when read brings-up the base thread. Now that sounds easy to do!!! 3 On the other hand, I like the way they do threads on http://www.finishing.com

There, I've created my "trouble" for the day. Now I can get back to work. TTYL Dave F

Dave,

Appreciate your "troubling". As you know we welcome all suggestions and comments. And it indeed will take sometime before we get to evaluate these suggestions. Thanks.

Yes, I agree. We should make the old thread current if someone posts to the thread, inorder to keep it live.

I also had seen that happen recently in another forum and thought that made perfect sense.

I will look into it.

Thanks Dave for the suggestions. Cliff
