We are dealing with down time accredited to the Pumps getting clogged with dried glue. We have decided to purge all spindles at 6 hour intervals. We are looking at making this process automated. Has anybody tried this and if so, is there a way to set up your program to wait until the production board has completed before your cammand file tries to change the Machine mode during production and locks your software?

Hello. I hope I can be of some help to you . Our company is very familiar with the Universal style GDM that you talk about. My first question is which pump do you have on your GDM? Piston style pump or screw style pump. They call it thier Archimededes version. The new pump style has new nozzles. They were much shorter and easier to use. They make a conversion that allows you to put the new nozzles on the piston pump. Since we changed to the newer shorter nozzles, our maintenance on nozzles has decreased. With the traditional nozzles we had no problems with adhesive curing in the pumps ever. We originally cleaned once a week. We now can go once a month without cleaning pumps or nozzles. We now use Loctite 3615. We had used Hereaus, Amicon and Ciba Geigy. We never really had a problem with adhesive curing in the pumps or the nozzles. If you cover the nozzles at night or when the machine is not in use, with a small cap filled with magnalube or o-lube, the adhesive won't polymurize at the tip. For longer periods, when the machine will sit, it may be wise to take the nozzle off and clean it. If you are hitting the board to hard or if your boards are dirty, you will collect a lot of debris at the tip of the nozzle. Just keep a toothbrush handy at the machine. periodicly reach in and just clean the bottom of the nozzle. based on your note, purging every six hours is premature. You must have another issue. What glue are you using? Is there a heat source near the pump and nozzle? Putting magnalube in the pump on top of the bushing and at the tip when sitting idle has really helped us out. Were shooting for pump maintenance once a month! We run three shifts a day too.
