Hunter Paste Height Measurer

Has anyone heard of this company? We have one at our facility and I can't find them listed anywhere. I looked through this years NEPCON directory with no listing there either. We have some parts that need replacing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said it Dave...$14,000 to measure solder paste height always kinda' made me choke. I get the same kinda' accuracy (+/- half a mil) with my $1,500 SMarTmeasure depth measuring microscope... but if you like those fancy-smancy lasers pay the extra 13-grand. (Damn! 13-grand! that's a brand-new GSXR 750 and a primo set of leathers!...with change left over even!)

If the machine is the same one I used to use then it is just a simple light section microscope i.e. inlined beam of light where you measure the step in the beam as an indication of paste thickness. We used one connected to a mitutoyo data logger to attempt to provide some form of SPC for our solder paste thickness (quality manager on my back) What we did find was that it was a spot measurement and as such was not a true representation of what we wanted. An operator could spend up to 20 minues checking about 100 pads on a first off board and produce a good Cpk figure for the print - then go and look at it under a microscope and decide it was dogboned to hell and bin it! As you are probably aware your stencil thickness has more effect on the print thickness than anything else. Put your effort into making the printed pads like little cubes rather than trying to measure spot thickness.
