ESD Tote questions

ESD Tote questions | 19 August, 1999

I have a few general ESD tote questions:

1) For purposes of transporting within a factory, are tops necessary to the tote containers?

2) Are there any other colors beside black that are conductive?

Thanks, Mike Demos.

Sort of depends on the sensitivity class of the devices involved and any contractural requirements. To meet EIA-541 requirements for a static shielding container a cover is necessary. This is because the cover completes a Faraday cage around the protected items (like a static shielding bag). The cover also keeps the contents dust free, protected from physical damage and allows stacking. In a practical sense, unless the devices involved are very sensitive, a cover is not necessary for short term transport within an otherwise protected environment. Olympic makes Benstat totes in blue. Endural will quote most any color. |
