Mydata TP-18, can she place 0402's | 20 August, 1999

IF anyone is placing 0402's with the Mydata tp-18 I would like to here how reliable it is(with these little buggers).

Thanks

You need to buy a new tip and a new feeder to accept taped components (unless you use a tray). You'll need to fiddle with the physical parameters so you get a "good" test but they still tend to get "lost". I've instructed my inspectors to double check all 0402's and I also try and do a check prior to unloading the board.

A bit of a hastle but what isn't with these critters, Scott

Operators will need to keep a close eye on each pcb, the boards i run have about 100 0402 per side and if im only missing 1-5 per im content. Good luck and if you would like me to give you package info let me know. wayne@distron.com

So hopefully the pain level will be somewhat below childbirth.

MD Cox,

We have a TP11-UFP and were very skeptical about placing 0402's. We bought the feeder and the tool and some dummy parts and went to work. It worked surprisingly well for us. Less then 2% miss-picks and we were mechanically and electrically testing all components. The most important thing for us was to get the height in the package data right. As you probably know, this height tells the MYDATA where to test your part, and if you are a little off on 0402's, you'll get lots of rejects.

Anyway, in short yes it does place them. Any questions let me know.
